OFFSET PROJECTS BIOMASS BASED ENERGY GENERATION IN INDIA
This project generates thermal energy by using renewable fuels. The project installed 15 biomass fuelled boilers and the generated steam is used in the processing units of the proponent of a Dairy products manufacturing unit at Bhitouna, Kanshiram Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. The project has positive impacts on the local society through several factors. Employment is one of them. Indeed, the project has created employment during the construction phase of as well as the long term employment for workers in charge of operating the plant. We estimate that about 100 employments have been created since the beginning of the project. In parallel, the project has optimized the economic growth of the region and increased the level of life of local families. Indeed the rice husk is a free by-product for farmers. The regular demand of rice has therefore created a new source of revenues for them. Environmentally, the project is positively impacting the region as the rice husk is now collected by farmers, instead of being burned in the field. Last but not least, ashes are also taken over by farmers and used in the fields as supplement micronutrients. It is a complete cycle that has been able to transform waste into revenues.
